Okocha featured for Bolton Wanderers and Hull City in England, but during his time at the Reebok Stadium, he produced remarkable performances in the English topflight.

And Ilorin-born Awoniyi, who is beginning to settle in England, disclosed that he had seen clips of Okocha’s exploits, including the sensational goal against Oliver Kahn in Germany.

Awoniyi said:

"For sure I will pick Jay-Jay Okocha, had it been that he was still able to play. He is one of the best players in the world for me," Awoniyi posited.
"I watched his clips on YouTube and when I was in Germany, they showed me the goals he scored in Germany against Oliver Kahn I think. And of course, everyone knows Jay-Jay Okocha in Nigeria."

Nottingham Forest fans queue up for Awoniyi’s autograph

Meanwhile, Premier League returnees Nottingham Forest football fans queued up to get autographs of Nigerian international Taiwo Awoniyi.

During their win over West Ham United, the lanky forward scored Nottingham Forest's first Premier League goal in 23 years and 90 days.

And right after the game, fans of the club also made attempts to share the historical moment with the 25-year-old as they queued up to get his autograph.

Eto’o speaks on Okocha-Ronaldinho debate

Sports Brief earlier reported that Cameroon legend Samuel Eto’o did not find it funny that Super Eagles legend Jay Jay Okocha did not get the deserved recognition during his playing days.

The FECAFOOT president believes Okocha deserved much more following his exploits for the Nigerian national team as well as the clubs he played for.

Eto’o insisted that Okocha remains one of the most skilful footballers ever and wondered how the midfield maestro never won the coveted CAF Player of the Year Award.
