Football fans of Premier League returnees Nottingham Forest queued up to get autographs of Nigerian international Taiwo Awoniyi.

The lanky forward scored Nottingham Forest's first Premier League goal in 23 years and 90 days during their win over West Ham United on Sunday.

Nottingham Forest made 14 new signings ahead of the league season, and it proved significant as Taiwo Awoniyi scored the only goal, while Dean Henderson saved Declan Rice's penalty.

The Nigeria international’s first-half effort separated both teams in the keenly contested league showdown at City Ground.

According to GOAL, he becomes the 37th Nigerian to score an English elite division goal in the process.

And right after the game, fans of the club also made attempts to share the historical moment with the 25-year-old as they queued up to get his autograph.

Men, women, and children were all spotted in a line just in front of the striker’s car as they take turns to get his autograph.

Awoniyi was delighted as he gladly obliged with smiles all around his face, even though so much more rest on his shoulders.

Awoniyi signs 5-year-deal with Nottingham Forest

Meanwhile, the Nigerian international could not hide how he felt during the official signing as he seemed to shed tears of joy upon such a historical moment of his career.

BBC Sport reports that the 24-year-old former Liverpool star penned a five-year deal with the club for £17million.

Awoniyi scored 20 goals in 43 appearances for German side Union Berlin last season and he is now the first signing of Nottingham Forest following the club’s return to the English topflight.

Sports Brief earlier reported that Nigerian international Joe Aribo impressed in Southampton’s 2-2 draw with Leeds United in the English Premier League on Saturday afternoon.

The Super Eagles midfielder came on in the 61st minute of the encounter and was already on the score sheet in the 72nd minute.

The 26-year-old was at the end of Adam Armstrong’s low ball at the back post to get Southampton back into the game after a brace from Rodrigo had put Leeds two goals ahead.
