Video has emerged of Super Eagles legend John Obi Mikel speaking Pidgin English to the surprise of his fans in Lagos.
At the conclusion of his 3-day event in Lagos, Back2Base, a talent hunt put together by the former Chelsea star to give back to the society, Mikel stunned his fans when he communicated in Pidgin English despite spending most of his playing career in Europe.
The Guardian reports that Back2Base is a multisport event geared toward the discovery of new talents.
Mikel was on hand to give cash rewards to the best players in several sports.
However, one moment caught the attention of his fans and this came when the former Nigerian international spoke in Pidgin English while answering a question about why the event did not witness a lot of female participants.
Mikel said in Pidgin English in a video posted by Goldmyne TV: “You know say I get twin girls and it is about women empowerment for me. So make una no vex, I promise say next edition, na una names go be first, female basketball. I know say a lot of good talents dey here, I see one dey eye me, she dey give bad eye (laughs).”
Mikel's words in English: “You know I have twin girls and it is all about women empowerment for me. So please don't be angry, I promise that next edition, women will be the first on the list, especially female basketball. I know there a lot of good talents here, I saw one looking at me and admiring me (laughs).”

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Mikel was at the famous Unilag Sports Complex for his Back2Base talent hunt programme which kicked off on Thursday, June 9.
The Nigerian ex-international and former Chelsea star, along with his partners, launched a three-day talent hunt programme in Lagos.
Mikel was spotted with a very talented young chap Khalid ‘magic leg’ as they passed the ball to each other.
And after the event, Khalid took to Instagram to celebrate the moment he met with his ‘idol’ who won the Champions League with the English club Chelsea in 2012.

Meanwhile, John Obi Mikel’s impact at Chelsea is still being celebrated years after departing the Stamford Bridge.
The 35-year-old has been recognized by the Blues as the youngest player to make 100 appearances for Chelsea in the English Premier League.
