Former Nigeria striker, Julius Aghahowa says footballers will continue to associate with politicians as long as lack of funds is still an issue in football in the country.

Aghahowa made this known following the recent criticism of former Super Eagles players by Nigerians for visiting Presidential aspirant, Bola Tinubu at his Lagos residence.

According to a report via Channels, Aghahowa revealed that football in the country is still heavily dependent on politicians for funding which is the reason players will keep associating with public office holders.

“If people are clamouring for footballers or sportsmen not to be associated with politicians, I don’t know where they would get the funds to participate in competitions or to get involved.”

Former players including Nwankwo Kanu, Austin Jay-Jay Okocha, and Taribo West were heavily lambasted on social media as they participated in a novelty match to celebrate the politician's 70th birthday.

Meanwhile, Julius Aghahowa is feeling confident the Super Eagles come out victorious against the Black Stars in their first-leg World Cup play-offs in Kumasi.

According to Pulse Sports, Aghahowa warned that the Super Eagles should expect a difficult game against the Ghanaians but should still get a good result away from home.
