Super Eagles Returnee Ogenyi Onazi Replies Critics As He Returns to Nigerian National Football Team

Nigerian international Ogenyi Onazi has expressed delight after being invited into the Super Eagles ahead of Nigeria vs Ghana World Cup playoffs.

The 29-year-old who already has 52 caps for Nigeria is delighted to return to the squad as he was named in the standby list for the showdown against the Black Stars.

Football fans took to social media to criticise him as he recently joined Saudi Arabia's second division Al-Adalah on 19 January 2022, but yet to make an appearance.

Onazi has been out of the national team for more than two years and now the midfielder has said he is not bothered about what people say.

Onazi told Oma Sports as per GOAL:

“Personally, I don’t listen to what they write online. I’m still on the reserve list, not yet on the main list so we can’t tell what’s going to happen. Let’s keep it that way and then we’ll see what’s going to happen.

“As far as I’m concerned, football in this present situation now – it doesn’t matter if you’re playing in Manchester United or you’re playing in Kazakhstan or wherever. You’re not taking your club to go and play in the national team, you’re taking your individual skill and ability to join with your fellow players and make a team.

“During my time at the national team, I never had a problem with anybody. I’ve always been a person in the middle – between the young and the old – to make them integrate into the team. When I’m on the pitch, I give my all until I’m almost dead.”

Sulley Muntari linked with Black Stars’ return

Meanwhile, Sports Brief earlier reported that an administrative manager of the Ghana League Clubs Association, Oduro Nyarko says Sulley Muntari needs to be in the Black Stars team for the World Cup qualifier against Nigeria.

Ghana hosts the Super Eagles on March 25, 2022, in the first leg in Cape Coast before travelling to Abuja for the second leg in four days’ time.

Ahead of the crucial encounter, Mr Oduro Nyarko, who has been impressed with Muntari's display in the domestic league is urging the technical team to invite the veteran midfielder.
