Super Eagles legend Austin Okocha is pleased with the Nigeria Football Federation board for appointing Emmanuel Amuneke among the technical crew of the national team, Soccernet reports.

Amuneke joins Augustine Eguavoen-led technical crew as both ex-internationals who played alongside Okocha in the Super Eagles will now lead the team to the forthcoming World Cup playoffs against Ghana.

Okocha has thrown his weight of support for the pair as he believes Amuneke had been the missing personality in the Eagles’ technical department.

Eguavoen, Amuneke and Okocha were members of the Super Eagles squad that conquered Africa to win the AFCON tournament on Tunisian soil in 1994.

After retirement, Jay Jay has since returned to business and punditry while Eguavoen and Amuneke took a coaching career.

Amuneke won the FIFA u-17 World Cup first as an assistant coach and later as the head coach before guiding Tanzania to their second-ever appearance at the Afcon in 2019.

The former Bolton Wanderers’ star said via Thisday:

“Amuneke’s coming to Eagles coaching crew is a good addition. We all know how qualified he is and the value he’s bringing to the team.
“He was successful In Tanzania and his inclusion is a positive one for Nigeria. It shows our intentions in getting things right ahead of the playoffs.”

Eguavoen assures NPFL players of call up

Meanwhile, Augustine Eguavoen has given his support to the Nigerian Professional Football League players and assured them they will certainly get call-ups to the Super Eagles in the future.

Eguavoen was on Monday, February 7, asked to carry on as the Super Eagles interim manager after helping Nigeria to the second round of the African Cup of Nations.

The NFF technical director has been monitoring league matches across the country since his return from the AFCON.

Bonfrere Jo wants Super Eagles' job

Sports Brief earlier reported that former Super Eagles coach Bonfrere Jo has urged the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) to re-instate him as head coach of the national team 20 years after he was sacked.

Bonfrere Jo who won the gold medal for Nigeria at Atlanta '96 Olympics believes no one has done what he has achieved.

Recall that Bonfrere Jo led the Super Eagles to the African Nations Cup in 2000, where Nigeria lost in the final to Cameroon in Lagos.
