Mohamed Salah has been attacked on social media by football fans who were not impressed with how the Liverpool striker failed to shine against the Super Eagles on Tuesday evening, January 11.
Kelechi Iheanacho who plays for Leicester City was the man of the match in the African Cup of Nations tie against Egypt which ended in a 1-0 win for Nigeria in Cameroon.
Salah being the captain of Egypt was expected to shine by fans considering his performances so far this season in the Premier League for Liverpool, but the star was caged by Nigerian defenders.
Who are the defenders that blocked Mohamed Salah?
Ola Aina, Zaidu and captain Troost-Ekong were impressive in the defense for the Super Eagles as they gave Mohamed Salah no breathing space.
According to the report on Daily Mail and Complete Sports, Mohamed Salah was slammed by fans as they felt the Liverpool striker should have proved himself against Nigeria.
The reports added that many fans claimed that Mohamed Salah can only operate at Liverpool and not with the national team.
One fan wrote: "Salah in ghost mode."
With a second saying: "Mohamed Salah's only had 14 touches in the first half - the fewest of any Egypt player to play the whole 45 mins against Nigeria in this #AFCON2021 match..."
A third continued: "Has Salah touched the ball? they’ve marked him dangerously."
