Black Stars centre-back Alexander Djiku has described Ghana's must-win game against Uruguay as a 'match like no other'.

The four-time African champions have scores to settle with the South American nation, twelve years after La Celeste denied Ghana from reaching the last four of the World Cup.

Ghana were eliminated from the quarter-final, after Luis Suarez deliberately used his hands to stop a goal-bound header from Dominic Adiyiah from entering the net.

The former Liverpool striker was sent off with Ghana awarded a penalty, but Asamoah Gyan missed, forcing the game into penalty shootouts.

The Black Stars ended up losing 4-2 on penalties, with the dreams of the continent shattered.

However, ahead of the game on Friday, Djiku has indicated the team is ready to give their all to make it into the last 16.

"A match like no other. A day like no other. For all of Ghana," the Strasbourg defender posted on Twitter.

The Black Stars need a win or a draw, and hope the result from the game between Portugal and South Korea favours them.

Ghana have only failed to make it out of their group once - the 2014 edition in Brazil.

Djiku plays football with son

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Black Stars defender Djiku shared a lovely moment with his son, as the pair were spotted playing football together.

Djiku, whose future at Strasbourg remains uncertain, saw a move to German Bundesliga outfit TSG Hoffenheim hit a snag this week.

In a photo posted on Twitter, the defender looks to be ushering his son into the game at a very young age.

Rock-solid Strasbourg defender Djiku has been crowned his country's top player for the year, at the Ghana Football Awards held in Accra on Saturday night.

The French-born Ghanaian beat off competition from Arsenal star Thomas Partey, newly-signed Charlton Athletic goalkeeper Jojo Wollacot, Southampton's Mohammed Salisu, and Daniel Amartey of Leicester City.

In a video posted on social media, the 27-year-old expressed delight at winning the award, thanking his club and national team teammates.
