Salisu was denied a role in Ghana's U17 team for not paying money that was demanded by some members of the technical team, according to his uncle.
And that has haunted the young defender since, forcing him to reject any invite to the senior national team despite his splendid form for Southampton.
"Certain coaches/ Technical Team/ Scouts were demanding for money from him (Mohammed Salisu) to be in the final squad of the Ghana's Under 17 squad then," Yakubu Ahmed told Sikka FM.

Salisu has made 23 appearances in all competitions for the St Mary's outfit, and has a goal to his credit, after scoring in an EFL Cup match.
The 22-year-old joined Southampton from Spanish outfit Real Valladolid in the summer of 2020, and has since become one of the best defenders in the English Premier League.
