  • Ralph Hasenhuttl has shed light on the inexplicable loss of form of Ghana international Mohammed Salisu
  • Salisu, who recently turned 23, was one of Southampton's best performers and put in an incredible shift against Manchester City, earning him applauds
  • However, after the match against the Citizens, Salisu has struggled for form with consistent mistakes leading to goals becoming a regular feature in his game

Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl has ascribed Mohammed Salisu's recent poor form to the transfer reports linking the center-half to other clubs.

Salisu, who was described as 'phenomenal' by ex-Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy, has experienced a dip in form in recent times.

The 23-year-old guardsman has been surprisingly involved in individual errors leading to goals after his sublime display against Manchester City.

Finding answers to the sudden dip in form, Hasenhuttl hinted the defender has lost focus due to the transfer rumors linking him to various clubs.

"The Man City game was where they all praised him for being fantastic and it was his last really good game he played. It is always difficult for you as a manager to say what is going on in the background with him and all the things, all the rumors but I think this is a typical example of how quickly you can lose the focus and drop with your performances," Hasenhuttl said as quoted by Football Ghana.
"I think it’s on me - and you can be sure that I speak with him very often about that – to get his head clear because the last performances have been far away from what he has shown. He is a good package normally, we all know,"
"At the moment we are having the issue also with Ramadan and for these players, it is not so easy. Some handle it better some don’t feel so energetic, but for me, it is important that he gets back to the Sali he was before these last two or three games," he ended.

Asamoah Gyan heaps praise on Mohammed Salisu

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that former Sunderland forward Asamoah Gyan has lauded Southampton center-back Mohammed Salisu for his outstanding performances in the English Premier League.

The 36-year-old has grown fond of the defender, revealing he is a big fan of the 22-year-old Saints center-back.

Asamoah Gyan in an interview with Peace FM in Accra stated Mohammed Salisu is one of the top three best defenders in the English Premier League at the moment.
