The French side have noted how Barcelona have stepped up their efforts to land Messi and are willing to offer him more money and a longer deal than previously suggested.

Barcelona step up their approach

While it’s no secret that Barca want Messi to return to the club, they have finally made their intent official.

The club’s vice-president Rafa Yuste confirmed that they have officially opened talks with Messi’s camp over a possible return, Goal reported.

“He arrived here when he was 12 years old. Of course, I would love to have him back. I say this personally. But I think many of our supporters would love that too, for everything he would represent if he came back,” he said.

Yuste then confirmed they were in talks with Messi’s camps to try and sign him in the summer.

Messi close to leaving France

Lionel Messi's time at Paris Saint-Germain looks set to end soon.

The Ligue 1 club are unsure whether they will be able to renew the Argentinian's contract beyond this campaign, Sports Brief reported.

Messi signed a two-year deal when he joined the French club from Barcelona and has yet to decide where he will play his football next season.
