  • Argentina are the world champions after beating France in the final of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar
  • Paris Saint-Germain striker Kylian Mbappe netted three goals for Les Bleus in the tournament's final
  • Argentina's captain, Lionel Messi has now revealed his thoughts on Mbappe's Mundial showing

Lionel Messi has finally praised the performance of his teammate at Paris Saint-Germain, Kylian Mbappe, who proved himself in the final of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

The tournament final was a tough battle between Argentina and France, who settled for a 3-all draw after 120 minutes before the encounter was decided via penalties.

Going into the crucial duel, the South Americans were tipped to win the title because of Messi, although Mbappe was expected to be equally important in helping the Europeans retain their global crown.

According to the report by ESPN, quoting the Ligue 1 champions, Messi's comments were translated as follows:

''It really was a breathtaking final and it was crazy how the match went as Kylian performance was great too. Scoring three goals in a final and not being able to be a champion was something crazy.''

Argentina would also have their goalkeeper, Emiliano Martinez to thank for their title, with his saves in the penalty shootout being the true difference-maker.

The world title also saw the shot-stopper and his captain reap individual accolades following the first Mundial in the Middle East.

Messi accepts Mbappe as 'boss'

Sports Brief previously reported on Messi accepting Mbappe as 'boss' at PSG - at least according to an ex-Arsenal star with 79 caps for France, Robert Pires.

The Argentine and Frenchman have combined to great effect of late despite reports of a feud between the two, likely fuelled by the result of the World Cup final.

The pair have developed a near-telepathic understanding of each other's game, said to be behind the club's recent streak of positive results across competitions.
