The 35-year-old forward’s future has been shrouded in uncertainty in recent weeks as his current deal with PSG was set to expire at the end of the season.

According to Football Espana, Messi has agreed a new one-year deal in principle to remain with the Ligue 1 champions, snubbing the interest from former club Barcelona.

The Catalan giants had indicated their interest in bringing Messi back to Camp Nou as a free agent when his current deal with PSG expires in the summer.

Saudi Arabia looks to attract Messi with a higher wage

Meanwhile, two teams in the Saudi Arabian league are desperate to sign Lionel Messi with speculations of payments that would surpass what Cristiano Ronaldo receives at Al Nassir.

According to Marca, Al-Hilal and Al Itihad are the teams that have asked for help from the Saudi Arabia government to be able to make the offer.

Both teams are willing to pay Messi around €350million per season which will surpass the €200million a year currently being paid to Ronaldo by Al Nassr.
