An Argentina fan has inked Messi's memorable moment during the game against the Netherlands in the quarter-final of the World Cup.

The Paris Saint Germain forward appeared to be taunting the technical bench of the Netherlands led by Louis van Gaal.

The moment was captured and has since gone viral, with some fans labelling the Argentina superstar disrespectful.

However, in show of love and admiration for Messi, a fan known as Nico Melana inked the moment on his body forever.

Melana also promised to tattoo more special moments from the upcoming semi-final clash against Croatia on Tuesday.

"Go ball up Boboo. I have no idea how this went viral. Just know I paint myself yesterday morning. Tuesday, we will see if any other comes out. Goal accomplished. I am a meme," he wrote on Instagram.

Messi led Argentina to the semi-finals of the World Cup after scoring and providing an assist in the dramatic encounter against the Dutch.

In a game that saw a record 17 yellow cards shown, the match had to be decided via a penalty shootout with Argentina winning 4-3.

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that much has been said about Lionel Messi's celebrations and antics during the heated World Cup quarter-final match between Argentina and the Netherlands.

Argentina had the last laugh as they progressed on post-match penalties, with Messi seen celebrating in front of the Dutch technical bench with a style made famous by Juan Román Riquelme. Lionel Messi is believed to have been emulating the former Barcelona player and one of his idols, Juan Román Riquelme.

Messi cupped his ears in full sight of the Dutch boss after he had scored a penalty to make it 2-0. Pundits have explained that the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner had been plotting for this day for over 20 years.

Controversial referee Antonio Mateu Lahoz has reportedly been sent home following a tempestuous World Cup game that he officiated.
