  • Lionel Messi will lead his Argentina side at the FIFA World Cup, looking to win his first World Cup trophy
  • Messi, who has already hinted that this will be his last World Cup, might break some other records in Qatar
  • The 35-year-old has set many records in his long and successful career, but World Cup glory will be firmly in his sights

Lionel Messi will make another stab at winning the FIFA World Cup and complete all sets of trophies available to him.

For a player who has set the pace of football discussion for more than 10 years, it is surprisingly weird that he is yet to win the World Cup.

He agonizingly came close in the 2014 edition, where a Mario Gotze late strike sunk Argentina. Ahead of Qatar, Messi's prime target will be to win it finally, but there are some other records that he might or most certainly break subconsciously.

1. Youngest player to play five World Cups

Once Messi captains the side in their first match against Saudi Arabia on November 22nd he will become the youngest player ever to ever participate in five World Cups at 35 years.

This speaks to his longevity after appearing first at the 2006 World Cup. His arch-nemesis Cristiano Ronaldo is also set for a fifth World Cup appearance, but he will be 37 years. He will also be younger than Gianluigi Buffon at 36, Lothar Matthaus at 37 and Rafael Marquez at 39.

2. Argentine with the most World Cup appearances

His fifth appearance will also see him surpass Diego Maradona and Javier Mascherano, who have four.

3. Argentine with the most goals at the World Cup

He might be the country's all-time top scorer, but he only sits fifth when it comes to World Cup goals. It is, however, a tally he can surpass this year as he is on six goals and Gabriel Batistuta, the number one on this list, is on 10 goals.

Four goals for a prime Messi should be simple, like ABC.

4. Argentine with the most games at the World Cup

Messi needs to play two more games to equal Maradona's tally of 21 or three more to surpass his tally.

Sports Brief had earlier reported that Antonela Roccuzzo, the wife of Lionel Messi, is getting ready to cheer on her husband at the FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Messi will lead his side at his fifth World Cup appearance, looking to go one better than in 2014 and win the trophy.

Ahead of the Qatar showpiece, Roccuzzo is seemingly getting ready after she uploaded a video showing Argentina's jerseys. The jerseys have the number 10 on them - Messi's number. One can expect that she will also make the journey to Qatar to support her husband.
