FootballPSG Icon Neymar Defrauded by Criminal Group That “Hacked” His Bank Transactions
- A boy has been arrested in Brazil for stealing almost €37,000 from the bank account of Paris Saint-Germain forward Neymar
- According to the police, the individual is part of a criminal group dedicated to fraud through illicit transactions
- Reports indicate that he used an online instant bank transfers system in Brazil to divert the money into his account
The world's most expensive player Neymar has been the victim of an online bank robbery, with around €37,000 illegally stolen from his accounts.
The PSG star noticed the fraudulent activity a few days ago and the police have arrested a 20-year-old who was allegedly operating as part of a criminal organization.
The individual, who reportedly works as an administrative assistant for a company, was accused of fraudulently diverting €37,000 in smaller sums from the bank account of Neymar.
Sao Paulo chief Fabio Pinheiro Lopes told local media:
“He used the log-in of a colleague and allegedly began to steal small amounts of money from the accounts of famous people with high purchasing power.
“These people didn’t realise at all. He did one for £1,400, another for £2,800 and afterwards £7,000.
“Neymar’s case has a peculiarity because the person who transferred the money was a bank worker, someone who was employed by an outsourced firm hired by the bank.”
To carry out the theft, the perpetrators used passwords belonging to business partners who make deposits to access customer’s accounts while diverting small amounts.
The suspect was arrested in a neighbourhood in the Zona Leste, one of the most populous regions of Sao Paulo, and the authorities indicated that they have already identified other people who participated in the scams.
