Ertugral Touches Chiefs, Pirates Fans: "Sundowns is the Big Team Now"
FootballHopeful Orlando Pirates Fan Believes They Can Still Win League, Sending Mzansi Fans Into Meltdown
- A Twitter user somehow believes that second-placed Orlando Pirates can overhaul Mamelodi Sundowns' mammoth 14 point lead in the DStv Premiership
- The Tshwane side has won the last four league titles, and are chasing a record-extending fifth consecutive championship
- Other Twitterati couldn't believe the confidence he has, suggesting he regain his touch with reality
A seemingly innocuous tweet by a Twitter user has been interpreted as a troll, sending the platform into a tailspin.
User @Nkoskhodola_23 joked that Orlando Pirates would still win the league, though they are miles behind log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns. The Tshwane side is on 44 points, while the second-placed Buccaneers are 14 points behind, stuck in a musical-chairs-like contest for the position with five other teams hot on their heels.
Realistically, it would take a monumental collapse for Sundowns to relinquish the lead in a one-horse race, being the hot favourites to win a record-extending fifth consecutive DStv Premiership title. However, responses to the tweet suggested that @Nkoskhodola_23 inadvertently woke up and chose violence.
@JackPhakathi1 said hopefully:
"Sundowns is panicking now, and The Mighty Buccaneers are picking up form at the right time. The league is a marathon and Pirates prepared for it. Sundowns prepared for a 17 match sprint."
@RyderMas responded snarkily:
"So the league they have been winning for the past four seasons is a 17 match sprint? Now suddenly with a 18 point lead they will panic? Which soccer do you watch?"
@Ncedo was dismissive:
"Don't stress yourself by thinking about the impossible. Rest and enjoy the holidays and you'll accept your faith of becoming the deputy when football resumes."
@MatthewsEffect said:
"Probably the most wishful thinking I've heard this year. Go on though, pump them up in the face of defeat. Truth is that @Masandawana will win all league titles in the next 15 years. Others just make the race a race for the Yellow Nation."
Football community reacts with anger and indignation to Samuel Eto'o tax accusations
Mohamed Salah Left out of FIFA FIFPRO World XI Nominations, Drawing Heated Response
FootballReaders are not happy at the allegations levelled against legendary former Barcelona and Cameroon striker Samuel Eto'o.
Eto'o, now president of the Cameroon Football Association, was one of thousands of people accused of evading the taxman in Spain.
This was part of a list by the Spanish tax office stating that the individuals on it owed €600,000 (R10.7 million) or more.
