  • Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Siyabonga Mpontshane is still reeling from the events of last Saturday's Soweto Derby
  • Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Yusuf Maart audaciously chipped in from beyond the halfway line after spotting Mpontshane miles off his line
  • Coach Jose Riveiro said that this would not factor into who would start between the sticks in this Saturday's MTN8 final against Amazulu

It appears that Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Siyabonga Mpontshane has been forgiven for the events of last Saturday at Soccer City.

Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Yusuf Maart spotted him off his line, firing the ball some 55 or so metres into the empty net with Mpontshane all at sea. The Amakhosi went on to win the match 1-0.

Going into this match, he had been in excellent form in goals, deputising for Ghanaian international Richard Ofori, who was about to return from injury.

When asked by Sports Brief at a club media briefing if these factors would influence the selection of who starts against AmaZulu in the MTN8 final on Saturday, coach Jose Riveiro responded:

"I have four goalkeepers in the squad. Kopano [Thuntsane], Sipho [Chaine], Siyabonga and Richard. All of them are going to train this weekend as usual."
"At the end of the week, we are going to make a decision about which one of them is the right choice to play in this game."

Ghana Black Stars coach Otto Addo is expected to name Ofori in the squad for the upcoming 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Video montage shows Orlando Pirates goalkeepers being embarrassed after famous Yusuf Maart strike

Orlando Pirates cannot seem to catch a break when it comes to conceding 'worldies' that will never be forgotten.

The latest came via the educated right foot of Yusuf Maart, who chipped past Buccaneers goalkeeper Siyabonga Mpontshane from behind the halfway line for what could be the DStv Premiership Goal of the Season already.

As reported by Sports Brief, it is also quite possibly in the conversation for a nomination among the next batch of FIFA Puskas Award-quality goals.

A video has since emerged of other incredible goals in which Pirates goalkeepers are the unfortunate victims of world-class genius. There was one where Mamelodi Sundowns' Hlompho Kekana hit a pile-driver past the late Senzo Meyiwa.
