Pitso Mosimane has showered praise on Orlando Pirates for continuously challenging for honours on the African continent.
In the past decade, the Buccaneers have qualified for the CAF Champions League final (2013), and two Confederations Cup finals (2015 and 2022). Unfortunately, they fell at these final hurdles against Al Ahly, ES du Sahel and RS Berkane. Mamelodi Sundowns won the 2016 edition of the Champions League after defeating the Egyptians.
Mosimane was quoted in Soccer Laduma talking about the importance of South African footballing giants needing to do well on the continent to ensure that this excellence transfers to Bafana Bafana also rising back to the top eventually.

The three-time Champions League winner said:
“You remember how Orlando Pirates used to do in the Champions League and they’ve done exceptionally well. They were there all the years. They even carried the country to give us four spots in CAF – two for Champions League and two for Confed.
“Orlando Pirates kept South African for about seven or eight years and nobody gives Pirates credit for that."
Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs failed to qualify for next season's continental club competitions, as per The South African. Incidentally, CAF president and Mosimane's former boss at Sundowns Patrice Motsepe stated this past weekend that he wished Mosimane would become Bafana Bafana coach again.
