The 2021/22 footballing season is slowly winding down and Gabadinho Mhango remains on the outs at Orlando Pirates.

The Malawian striker has played just four games in the DStv Premiership for the Buccaneers and doesn’t look like he will feature much for the team going forward.

Former Orlando Pirates defender, Tonic Chabalala, has since shared his thoughts on the matter, stating that he can’t understand why Mhango does not get game time at the Buccaneers.

Chabalala recently questioned what the logic was behind not playing the striker, saying that he could not understand the player’s omission, Soccer Laduma reported.

“If I were to coach Orlando Pirates, I would prioritise playing players based on their performances in training because at the end of the day it would be me whose job would be on the line if results were not coming the team’s way.”

Chabala also admitted that he had heard stories that the player had discipline issues, but that it shouldn’t be the reason why he was frozen out of the squad, The South African reported.

“I hear stories of discipline and all of that but for me I wouldn’t care as a coach about the player’s discipline away from the team and I would judge them based on performance in what I see in training.”

Orlando Pirates’ co-coaches, Mandla Ncikazi and Fadlu Davids have come under fire from former players and fans for not giving Mhango more game time.

Mhango’s star took off after his performances at the AFCON tournament. Many have since urged him to join another club or sign for a European team to reach his full potential.

Gabadinho Mhango urged once again to leave Orlando Pirates by former Premier Soccer League player

Former Premier Soccer League player Gerald Phiri Sr. has urged fellow countryman Gabadinho Mhango to depart Orlando Pirates, Sports Brief earlier reported.

The Malawian striker has been something of an unwanted man in the Buccaneers team this season since co-coaches Mandla Ncikazi and Fadlu Davids took the helm. This is despite Mhango's sensational performance at the 2021 African Cup of Nations in Cameroon back in January.

Phiri believes that the 29-year-old Mhango needs to seek greener pastures in order to save his career. Phiri, whose son Gerald Phiri Jr. also plays in the DStv Premiership for Limpopo side Baroka FC, told KickOff.
