Nigerian international Victor Osimhen found the back of the net in Napoli’s 5-2 win over Verona in their opening Serie A game of the season.

Osimhen found the back of the net late in the first half to put his side 2-1 up, and then with 11 minutes left to play, he then provided the assist for Napoli’s fifth goal scored by Matteo Politano.

In ensuring the 23-year-old Super Eagles forward was not injured, coach Luciano Spalletti decided to replace the former Lille man who came off in the 83rd minute.

The win took Napoli to the top position in the league table ahead of the likes of champions AC Milan, Inter Milan, and Roma, who also recorded wins in their opening game.

Last season Osimhen scored 14 goals in 27 appearances in the Italian top-flight, which helped Napoli secure Champions League qualification.

Aribo scores in Southampton’s draw with Leeds United

Meanwhile, Nigerian international Joe Aribo impressed in Southampton’s 2-2 draw with Leeds United in the English Premier League on Saturday afternoon.

The Super Eagles midfielder came on in the 61st minute of the encounter and was already on the score sheet in the 72nd minute.

The 26-year-old was at the end of Adam Armstrong’s low ball at the back post to get Southampton back into the game after a brace from Rodrigo had put Leeds two goals ahead.
