Zlatan Ibrahimovic has vowed to turn the fortunes of AC Milan around once he returns from injury.

The Swedish striker is close to returning to competitive action after resuming first-team training this week.

Ibrahimovic was forced into a long layoff last year and underwent knee surgery after damaging his ligaments, and has been absent for close to nine months.

AC Milan's poor form

In his absence this year, the Rossoneri have struggled to keep up with the rigours of Italian football.

Stefano Pioli's side are at great risk of missing out on Champions League football next season. They are currently in sixth place with 38 points, having only won one game this year.

However, a bullish Ibrahimovic has promised to dig the defending champions out from their misery once he returns.

Known for his brazen remarks, the striker is confident of his abilities to inspire a lacklustre side back to winning ways.

Ibrahimovic's message ahead of return

"I'm still God; I'm still number one. Now, let's change the music when I get back. I really want to do many things, after what I have lost in these months. I wasted time," he said as quoted by Goal.

Ibrahimovic said he was not worried and said Milan's current situation was a 'normal moment within a championship'.

"Now, we need to talk little and demonstrate our value on the pitch."

It is not yet known when Ibrahimovic will be involved for Pioli, but his return is set to be a timely boost for his side.

They play Torino on February 10 before hosting Tottenham Hotspur next week as the Champions League returns.

Ibrahimovic's retirement plans

Sports Brief had earlier reported on Ibrahimovic reportedly setting his sights on hanging up his boots this summer after an illustrious career.

The Swedish star has enjoyed a glittering football journey spanning more than 20 years, with the rare chance to turn out for several top European clubs.

In 2018, it was believed that 41-year-old Ibrahimovic was preparing to retire, after quitting Manchester United to join LA Galaxy in the MLS.
