Confusion Reigns As Marumo Gallants Could be Fined by FIFA, Club Penalised Over TTM’s Transfer of Gustavo Paez

Marumo Gallants are in hot water with FIFA over the contract termination of Venezuelan striker, Gustavo Pae.

According to the player himself, Gallants would be banned for three consecutive transfer windows after the club terminated his contract in 2020 after just a few weeks and failed to compensate him KickOff confirmed.

The club was ordered to pay the Paez R2 million but when they failed to do so, FIFA handed down the ban, he told the publication.

Paez was let go before he could play any official games for the club after it was believed he was still contracted to Venezuelan club, Mineros de Guayana, Soccer Laduma reported.

Despite FIFA’s ban, there is some confusion over who is responsible for the fee or the ban. At the time of the transfer, Marumo Gallants were still known as Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila or TTM. Gallants bought out the Premier League status of TTM in 2021.

TTM then bought out Royal AM’s GladAfrica Championship status and continued to operate as a football club. With the money made from the sale, Royal AM then bought out Bloemfontein Celtic, and thus returned to the DStv Premiership.

Marumo Gallants CEO, Abram Sello said that they hadn’t heard anything about a ban but that the previous TTM management was responsible for the transfer, so he wasn’t sure who would be responsible.

Paez on the other hand believes that Gallants would pay the price.

"There was confusion from FIFA because TTM is in the second division, but they were told that Marumo Gallants bought that team and they were responsible,” he told KickOff.

While the clubs themselves have not received any official notice, the practice of buying another club’s status could just come back to haunt Marumo Gallants.

Kaizer Chiefs already have one legal case pending with the Premier Soccer League, and they soon could be in the middle of another legal battle with Amazulu and FIFA, Sports Brief previously reported.

Kaizer Chiefs spent most of the January transfer window attempting to sign wantaway Amazulu midfielder, Siyethemba Sithebe, to the club. Sithebe has agreed to join the Amakhosi at the end of the season when his contract with the Usuthu ends.

Amazulu owner, Sandile Zungu, was unhappy with the way Chiefs approached the player and The Citizen now reports that Amazulu is taking the matter further by gathering evidence to prove that Chiefs approached the player before they were legally allowed to do so.
