Man United icon Gary Neville has backed Paris Saint-Germain boss Mauricio Pochettino for the club's managerial role.

United are in the market for a permanent replacement for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer who was sacked after leading the club to a string of poor performances.

Ralf Rangnick is currently in charge of the Manchester club albeit in an interim capacity until the end of the ongoing season.

A number of candidates have over time been linked with the Old Trafford job including Zinedine Zidane who is currently out of work after he quit his role at Real Madrid.

But speaking after United's disappointing 1-1 draw against Newcastle, Neville noted that Pochettino is best suited to take charge at the Theatre of Dreams.

According to the former England international, the Argentine tactician has the required experience of the English Premier League.

“I’d like Pochettino to be the next manager because he’s got experience of the league, I think he would play the right type of football," Neville said on Monday Night Football.

“It feels like the moment for him to step up. He’s managing big stars, characters, and personalities. I’ve always liked him and the way in which he has operated. I think he fits the club, he works with young players as well," he added.

Pochettino, meanwhile, has been a long-term target for the Red Devils and came close to taking charge during his time at Tottenham Hotspur.

The Argentine was also heavily linked to the EPL club after the dismissal of Solskjaer but PSG are said to have rejected the idea of losing their manager midway through the season.
