Man United boss Ralf Rangnick has slammed his players following their lackluster performance against Newcastle at St. James Park.

United were arguably the second-best team during the Monday night, December 27, Premier League encounter as they committed sloppy mistakes.

The Red Devils had to rely on substitute Edinson Cavani to pick a point away from home as his goal cancelled out Allan Saint-Maximin's early strike.

David de Gea was United's best player on the pitch as he pulled stunning saves to keep the visitors in the game as the tie ended in a 1-1 draw.

Speaking in his post-match interview, Rangnick called out his players for lack of aggressiveness and also criticised their efforts when attempting to win back possession.

While assessing his side's performance, the German tactician conceded he was not impressed, insisting his charges were not at their best.

"I didn’t like the performance at all. Today we didn’t control the game apart from a few moments. It’s all about energy, physicality and who wins the second balls. In all those areas we weren’t at our best. The good thing is we got a point but the performance needs to be better," he observed.

"You have to be ready and able to win those direct duels and this was not that often the case. When we were in possession we had too many giveaways and even with the goal, that doesn’t make things easy," he added.

The draw, meanwhile, saw United miss out on a chance to climb to fifth on the log and now remain in seventh with 28 points.

They will be desperate to redeem themselves when they take on Burnley in their next EPL fixture slated for Thursday, December 30.
