The highly-rated Jadon Sancho is also walking on thin ice, as ten Hag is reportedly growing impatient with the Englishman’s inconsistency.
According to stats on Transfermkt, Sancho has made just five starts in the last five months as a combination of poor form and injuries have hindered his progress at Old Trafford.
United hunt for new striker
United are also in the hunt for a new striker, with Tottenham Hotspur's Harry Kane upon their radar as a preferred target.
Wout Weghorst is unlikely to continue his spell at Old Trafford when his loan deal comes to an end, while Martial has proven to be unreliable due to his injuries.
The fact that the Red Devils are goalless in their last three Premier League games since winning the Carabao Cup further brings forth the need for a prolific forward.
United lost 7-0 to Liverpool before enduring a goalless draw against Southampton. That was followed by a 2-0 defeat to Newcastle United after the international break.
