  • A Newcastle United fan will have to get a new ticket for the Carabao Cup final on February 26
  • The fan put his dog up for sale after it destroyed his ticket for the Manchester United clash
  • The competition's conclusion will be the Magpies' first major final since the FA Cup in 1999

Picture this: you are gearing up for the biggest game of your club in many years; a game that can end with your club winning a major cup and it's not against any team; it's against one of the giants - Manchester United.

The fact that you have qualified for the final in the first place is an achievement in itself - from battling relegation fears one year ago to a cup final.

This is what football is made of - dreams.

This is the predicament facing one Alan Carling, a staunch Newcastle United fan. Like any other Magpies fan out there, he was ready and raring to support Eddie Howe's charges in person on Sunday.

One would have to rack their brains for the last time Newcastle were in a major final. For Carling, this presented a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity though judging by his team's recent forays; they may become giants once again.

Double heartbreak for ticket holder

However, Carling suffered heartbreak after his dog, Rudy ate his Carabao Cup final ticket while he was away.

To make matters worse, he was at St. James Park where he watched his side record their first home defeat of the season and to top it off, the reliable Nick Pope was red-carded and will thus miss the final.

February 18 has to be one of the hardest days of Carling's life.

Taking to Facebook, Carling wrote:

"This is my dog Rudy. Rudy is a little [expletive] of a pup and thinks letters through the post are an invasion of his home. After coming back from watching Newcastle lose at home for the first time this season against Liverpool, conceding two goals and having the keeper sent off in the first half, Rudy thought he would give me a laugh by eating the Wembley tickets that were posted whilst I was out. Dog for sale, £5," he said as quoted by Sports Bible.

Put the word out, in case anyone needs a dog and won't mind his/her tickets being destroyed: Carling would happily allow Rudy to be a new member of your family.

Carabao Cup final preview

Sports Brief has also reported that Pope's red card against Liverpool over the weekend put a dent into Newcastle's season.

For a club that had done so well this term and surpassed all its expectations, the sending-off felt like ten steps backwards.

Were it not for the superb job Mikel Arteta had done in North London, Howe could have won the coach of the season, hands down.
