FootballVirgil Van Dijk, Raphael Varane, Kalidou Koulibaly: Best Paid Centre Backs in Premier League
- Raphael Varane and Kalidou Koulibaly headline the list of the best-paid centre-backs in the Premier League
- Kurt Zouma is the only defender not from a top-six side to make it to the top-10 list
- Both Manchester clubs, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur have two players each
Centre-backs are often not the centre of attraction during games with offensive players often given much attention. But as the old saying goes, a good attack wins you games but a good defence wins you titles.
Despite their struggles this season, Thiago Silva has been a colossus for Chelsea at the back. His longevity has been admirable with the veteran defender still being able to pull off world-class performances every week in the most competitive league in the world.
At 38 years, he recently extended his contract by a further year which will see him remain in London until the summer of 2024.
But where does he rank in the list of the best-paid centre-backs in the Premier League? The Brazilian is on a weekly salary of 110,000 euros weekly which is way off when compared to other top centre-backs in the league.

Varane, Van Dijk lead
It is no surprise that the list compiled by GMS is dominated by players from the top six clubs. Raphael Varane sits pretty at the top with a weekly wage of 340,000 euros. That salary makes the Frenchman not only the best-paid centre-back but also one of the best in the Premier League.
Kalidou Koulibaly's decision to switch Naples for London last summer saw him put to paper a hefty four-year deal that sees him pocket 295,000 euros weekly. Virgil Van Dijk is third on the list with the Liverpool star raking in 220,000 euros.

Ranking Arsenal's best-paid players
Sports Brief had earlier reported that Arsenal have often been known for being modest in the transfer market. Despite being a top-six club endowed with resources, the Gunners rarely 'overbid' for their targets.
They were recently outbid by their London rivals, Chelsea to the signing of Mykhailo Mudryk, but the silver lining for them was that they quickly wrapped up transferring Leandro Trossard from Brighton.
Part of the reason Mudryk is thought to have snubbed Arsenal was the better wages Chelsea was offering him. So, who are the top earners at the Gunners and how much are they raking in weekly Gabriel Jesus is the best-paid player after the former Manchester City striker agreed to a 265,000 pounds weekly wage. He beats the second person on the list, Thomas Partey by a distance. The Ghanaian earns 200,000 pounds weekly.
