  • Cristiano Ronaldo became the highest-paid sportsperson ever after signed a two-and-a-half-year deal with Saudi Arabian side Al Nassr
  • The announcement was made late on Friday, December 30 on Al Nassr’s social media
  • Hours after the announcement, Al Nassr club’s Instagram had tripled in followers
  • Ronaldo is the most followed human being on the platform, with more than half a billion followers

Cristiano Ronaldo’s massive influence in the world of sport manifested itself once again after sealing a stunning £173m-a-year transfer to Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia.

The 37-year-old has been a free agent since Manchester United ripped up his contract in November 2022, and seems to have finally found a home in the Middle East.

While he is set to play for two years for the Saudi Arabia club, Ronaldo’s deal is believed to run seven years, as he will take up an ambassadorial role once he hangs up his boots, as per The Sun.

Al Nassr’s social media

Sports Brief has since established that Al Nassr was struggling for followers prior to the Cristiano Ronaldo announcement.

As a matter of fact, some time in December, the club only had 860,000 followers.

But as at December 31, the club’s Instagram has blown up after a photo of the five-time Ballon d’Or winner on their page and they currently have more than 3 million followers.

This is more than double the followers the club had just a few days ago.

Ronaldo certainly has a huge influence on social media, particularly Instagram, where he makes $2,397,000 per sponsored post.

He also held the record for the most liked Instagram post, until his rival Lionel Messi overtook his post with the now famous World Cup winning photo.

Ronaldo could face Messi again

Sports Brief also reported on Ronaldo’s possible reunion with Messi after sealing the move to Al Nassr.

As PSG Talk reports, a potential clash between Ronaldo and Lionel Messi is in the offing as early as January 19th.

Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly set to go to Saudi Arabia and play a friendly match between a combined eleven of Al Nassr and Al Hilal players.
