Jesse Lingard has lashed out at Manchester United and former boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for how he was treated during his time at Old Trafford.

Lingard had a turbulent time at Manchester United with regular game time coming hard to come by under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

With Solskjaer gone, Lingard will make a return to Old Trafford as an opposition player when Nottingham Forrest travel to play Erik ten Hag's men on December 27th.

The England international could have revenge of sorts if he could help the recently promoted side to victory. But he is still at pains at how his Red Devils' career ended.

West Ham loan spell

He had just come from an impressive loan spell at West Ham United. The Londoners wanted him on a permanent deal but Solskjaer put breaks on the deal with the promise of game time.

"I don’t know why I wasn’t playing. I don’t know what the problem was, whether it was politics or whatever. I still haven’t got an answer to this day. I didn’t even ask," as quoted by Daily Mail.

"I’d rather that someone had told me ‘This is why you’re not playing’, out of respect for me being there so long, but I never got that. It was false promises. I was training hard and I was sharp, I was ready to play. So this is a chance to say my goodbyes because I never really got that."

Man United extend contracts of four players

Sports Brief had earlier reported that Manchester United activated the option of a unilateral extension of contracts for a further one year for four of their players during the midweek, the decision has now been confirmed by head coach Erik Ten Hag.

Academy graduate Marcus Rashford was due to be out of contract at the end of the season before the club exercised the option in his contract.

Diogo Dalot, Luke Shaw and Fred are the other three players who the option was exercised for.
