  • Cristiano Ronaldo has endured a disappointing start to the new season at Manchester United under Erik ten Hag
  • His frustrations came to the fore last Wednesday when he stormed off the pitch before the full-time whistle of their Tottenham clash
  • And with just a few months left on his current contract with Man United, speculation is rife that he could be allowed to depart in January

Chelsea could reportedly pursue a stunning January transfer move for troubled Man United attacker Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ronaldo is in the final months of his contract at Old Trafford, with his current deal set to expire at the end of the ongoing season.

While United have the option of triggering a 12-month extension, that is unlikely to happen, especially after the veteran forward falling down the pecking order under Erik ten Hag.

The 37-year-old has endured a disastrous start to the new season, with Ten Hag sparingly using him in his team.

His struggles were further compounded last week after the United boss banished him from the first team for storming out of the pitch before the full-time whistle of their clash against Tottenham.

Speculation is now rife that the five-time Ballon d'Or winner could be allowed to depart during the January transfer window.

Chelsea linked with Ronaldo

Chelsea have now been named among the potential suitors who could secure the services of Ronaldo from the Theatre of Dreams.

The Portuguese star was linked with a stunning move to Stamford Bridge in the summer, but the move did not see the light of day.

His agent is said to have met Blues' new owner Todd Boehly to explore the possibility of signing the attacker, only for the United legend to return to the Manchester club.

But according to Sunday World, Chelsea could once again make a move for Ronaldo, with the west London club said to be open to offering the former Real Madrid star a short-term deal in January in order for him to escape his Old Trafford nightmare.
