In a surprising move, Manchester United striker Cristiano Ronaldo has been banished from the first-team squad after refusing to come on against Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday night.
Ronaldo shockingly walked off the pitch and went straight to the dressing room, eliciting mixed reactions from fans on social media.
Ronaldo has been in and out of the team this season, and one could sense trouble brewing after manager Erik Ten Hag said he didn't want to bring the Portuguese on out of respect for his big career.
Last Sunday, in United's match versus Newcastle United, Ronaldo was substituted for Marcus Rashford late in the match. As he headed to the bench, he was visibly frustrated and could be seen muttering to himself.

Ten Hag reacted to Ronaldo's displeasure by saying he needed his strikers fresh, with games coming thick and fast, according to Eurosport.
Ronaldo banished from first team squad
According to The Athletic, the legendary player will be separated from the first team as Ten Hag deals with Ronaldo's refusal to come on.
The Athletic also reported that Ronaldo left the stadium before the final whistle and is expected to train alone as the club solves the disciplinary issue.
The 37-year-old will also not be part of the squad playing Chelsea on Saturday at Stamford Bridge. The Manchester United statement read.
