Gary Neville has warned that Manchester United could finish in the bottom half of the Premier League this season if Cristiano Ronaldo leaves the club.

Ronaldo is facing an uncertain future at Old Trafford, with the veteran striker believed to be keen to depart the club.

The 37-year-old missed United's otherwise successful pre-season campaign as he pushed for a move away.

Lack of fitness is said to have contributed to Erik ten Hag's decision to bench him in his side's season opener against Brighton, which ended in a 2-1 defeat.

But having worked his way into full fitness, Ronaldo started up front in Saturday's trip to Brentford but could not find the back of the net as United lost 4-0.

While Ronaldo is keen on departing this summer, Ten Hag has already made it clear that he intends to keep him at the club.

Gary Neville wants Cristiano Ronaldo transfer situation sorted

Gary Neville, a United legend, has now called on the club to sort out Ronaldo's transfer situation as soon as possible.

The former defender contends that the Red Devils risk finishing in the bottom half of the table should they fail to keep their starman.

"There's a massive decision to make on Cristiano Ronaldo, and they're damned if they do and damned if they don't," Neville told Sky Sports via Daily Mail.
"The problem now is that if they lose him, there's nothing left for the club in the goalscoring part of the pitch.

"I genuinely think that if they don't bring players in the next couple of weeks - or if they bring poor players in and he leaves - they could finish in the bottom half of the table," he added.

Man United players clashed 2 days before Brentford defeat

Sports Brief earlier reported of a dressing room disagreement between Manchester United players two days before their heavy defeat to Brentford.

It is not clear what the issue was, but it is understood that Harry Maguire staying on as the club captain is not appreciated by some players.

It had been expected that Maguire would be stripped of the captaincy with either Cristiano Ronaldo or Bruno Fernandes taking over.
