Newcastle United's fullback Kieran Trippier has come out to explain why he turned down efforts from Manchester United to sign him during the January transfer window.
Trippier was looking to move away from Atletico Madrid and make a return back to England. Manchester United, then under interim manager Ralf Rangnick had set their eyes on signing the England international.
The versatile defender said that United expressed interest but opted to join the Magpies after having a conversation with the head coach Eddie Howe.

Howe coached Trippier during their days at Burnley and he used that personal friendship to convince him to join him at St.James Park, as reported by Metro UK.
