  • Bailly was responsible for a brilliant piece of play by Manchester United on Tuesday
  • The defender came on in the second half for Erik Ten Hag’s side during the friendly against Liverpool
  • He was heavily involved in the build up as Pellistri scored the goal in the 4-0 win

Manchester United got off to a dream start during their preseason preparations as they hammered Liverpool 4-0 in Bangkok on Tuesday, July 12.

It was an impressive win for Erik Ten Hag in his first game in charge of the Red Devils, who looked a completely different side to the team that lost a combined 9-0 to Liverpool last season.

Goals from Jadon Sancho, Anthony Martial, Fred and youngster Pellistri were enough to see off Jurgen Klopp’s side, and the Liverpool boss might have slight regrets for starting a fairly tame side on Tuesday.

Ten Hag made a string of changes at halftime with the scores 3-0, making a total of 10 substitutions, leaving only David De Gea as the player who started the game for the second half.

This meant United were now playing the second half with a cluster of fringe players and youngsters who were all eager to impress the boss.

United somehow took the foot off the pedal in the second half, but one moment of magic led them to get a fourth goal, and it all revolved around one man – Eric Bailly.

The Ivory Coast international, brought on in the second half, danced his way past Liverpool’s Thiago after picking the ball in his own half before slipping the ball to Pellistri.

More impressively, Bailly continued his run in the attack, leaving Liverpool defenders with a decision to make on who to mark in the counterattack.

Pellistri eventually benefited from Amad’s pass to tuck the ball home, but fans online were in full praise of Bailly for showing some bravery and attacking qualities in the build-up to the goal.

“Bailly running riot while he has Darwin Nunez in his pocket,” one fan joked.
“This is a Bailly appreciation tweet. Not bad at all,” another added.

“Eric Bailly, keep him fit, he’s a joke,” added another.
“Man, how good is Bailly if he can keep fit?”

Ten Hag plays down emphatic win

Meanwhile, Sports Brief also reported of Ten Hag’s first remarks after the Liverpool win.

The United gaffer was pleased with his side’s performance but still noted that there were lots of mistakes worth looking into.

It was a team with a great spirit and we know we are just getting started. We made some mistakes in the press, we conceded some chances, but we created a lot.” He said.
