  • Cristiano Ronaldo was not spared by an American football commentator after PSG were crowned champions of the Ligue 1
  • Lionel Messi scored a superb curler from outside the box to hand the Parisians their 8th league title in 10 years after they were held to a 1-1 draw by Lens
  • Ronaldo also got on the scoresheet for Manchester United against Arsenal but couldn't prevent his side from going down 3-1 at the Emirates

The debate about who is the greatest ever footballer continued again last weekend after Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi both scored for their respective club sides.

Messi scored a wonderful strike to seal the French Ligue 1 title for Paris Saint-Germain on Saturday, April 23 while Ronaldo was also on target against Arsenal as Manchester United succumbed to a 3-1 defeat at the Emirates.

The loss for Manchester United further dampened their chances of qualifying for next season’s UEFA Champions League despite Ronaldo’s 16th Premier League goal.

According to a report via the Daily Star, an American football commentator has now mocked the Manchester United forward immediately after Messi’s title-winning goal.

"Ronaldo of Manchester United are confirmed to be Conference League team in sixth or seventh place.
"The GOAT Messi scores really the goal that gets the title for PSG."

Messi has struggled to impress in his first season in France as the Argentine has scored just 4 league goals for PSG, but none of that stat will matter to his fans after winning another league title.

Ronaldo and Messi, who is better this season?

Meanwhile, Cristiano Ronaldo reached a landmark for Manchester United after he scored his 100th Premier League for Manchester United against Arsenal.

According to GiveMeSport, the 37-year-old has scored an impressive 22 goals in 35 games for a poor United side.

Messi has, however only managed to net nine goals in 30 appearances for PSG but has a league title to show for his efforts, unlike Ronaldo, who may not play Champions League football next season.

Messi's screamer wins Paris Saint-Germain Ligue 1 title

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Paris Saint-Germain have been crowned the French Ligue 1 champions after their clash with Lens on Saturday, April 23.

The Parisians needed just a point during the encounter staged at Parc des Princes to confirm themselves as the league champions.

Mauricio Pochettino's men had Messi to thank as the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner rolled back the years to score a screamer that earned PSG the prestigious title.
