Portugal had to go through two gruelling fixtures to earn their ticket for the global football extravaganza set for Qatar.
Portugal's journey to World Cup qualification
The Selecao initially had to play Turkey in a World Cup semi-final play-off in a match they easily won 3-1.
Otavio, Matheus Nunes, and Liverpool forward Diogo Jota were all on target during the clash, with the victory earning them a date with North Macedonia for the final.
Portugal, who hosted the final play-off showed no sign of slowing down as they hunted down North Macedonia to sail through.
Cristiano Ronaldo and Fernandes combine to sink North Macedonia
Man United duo of Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes played a crucial role in Portugal's win as they formed a perfect combination to down North Macedonia.
Ronaldo set up Fernandes for the encounter's opener in the 32nd minute to ensure the hosts head into the break with the advantage.
Fernandes went on to double the lead in the 65th minute of the Tuesday, March 29, clash to send his side to Qatar.
Ronaldo reacts to Portugal's World Cup qualification
Ronaldo has now taken to social media to express his delight at seeing his home country qualify for the sixth straight World Cup since 1998.
"Goal achieved, we’re at the Qatar World Cup, we’re in our rightful place," Ronaldo posted on Instagram.
"Thank you to all the Portuguese for the tireless support! Força Portugal," he added.
