Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo has said he is already looking forward to their Champions League Round of 16 clash against Spanish giants Atletico Madrid, SunSport reports.
The 37-year-old will hope to keep his incredible record against Diego Simeone’s side when they clash at the Wanda Metropolitano.
CR7 will expect to receive a hostile welcome from the home fans following his exploits against them during his days at Real Madrid.
The Portuguese sensation is also under pressure to deliver as there are growing calls for Ralf Rangnick to axe him from the starting line-up.
Ronaldo appears to be eager to silence his critics to extend his fine record scoring form against Atletico as he has netted 25 goals in 35 matches against them.
Hours before the first leg kicks off, Ronaldo wrote on social media:
“Getting ready for the return of the biggest club competition in the world. Let’s go!”
Ronaldo, who first faced Atletico during his opening campaign at Real in 2010, has scored a ludicrous 25 goals in 35 games against them.
The only team he has racked up more goals against is Sevilla - 27. But the Portuguese legend has only managed one assist against Sevilla - compared with the five he has accumulated against Atletico.
Man Utd continue to shop for Rangnick’s replacement
Man United have reportedly intensified their search for a permanent manager to take over from Ralf Rangnick.
Rangnick was appointed to the role back in December 2021 on an interim basis, succeeding Ole Gunnar Solskjaer who had been sacked at the time.
