FootballJubilation at Man United as Key Player Hints He Will Never Quit Old Trafford
- David de Gea has suggested he has no intention of leaving Man United, more than five years after he nearly joined Real Madrid
- At the time, a glitch in a fax machine on transfer deadline saw his proposed move to the La Liga giants dramatically fall through
- The Spain international has since gone on to establish himself as an integral squad member for the Red Devils
David de Gea appears to have put his Old Trafford future to rest after hinting he will never quit Man United.
The United shot-stopper made the suggestion ahead of his return to Atletico Madrid, his birthplace and where he started his football career.
Naturally, De Gea would be expected to have a special place in his heart for Madrid - owing to its significance to his life.
However, speaking ahead of United's trip to Atletico Madrid for the Champions League, the Spaniard has claimed he feels more like a Manc than a Madrileno.
“I like the fact I was born in Madrid, but at the end of the day, it's just a city. Now I feel as if I'm from Manchester; I just feel like anyone else from Manchester. Where you are loved and welcomed is your home," De Gea told UEFA.com.
“I've been here for many years and, obviously, anything can happen in life, in the world of football, but honestly I don't see myself away from Manchester United," he added.
When did De Gea join Man United?
The experienced Man United keeper moved to Old Trafford back in 2011 under the former boss, Sir Alex Ferguson.
While the Spain international struggled in the Premier League during his early days at Old Trafford, he managed to adapt quickly in the subsequent seasons.
He has gone on to play 473 times for the Red Devils, keeping 163 clean sheets in the process.
