Championship side, Reading, have named Man united legend Paul Ince as their new manager in an interim capacity.

Ince landed the exciting role following the sacking of Veljko Paunovic who was shown the door despite winning at Peterborough on Saturday, February 19.

The Royals battled Peterborough to 3-2 crucial victory at Preston in a result that left them five points clear of the drop zone.

Veljko Paunovic dismissed

However, that was not enough to help Paunovic keep his job at Reading, with the club confirming his dismissal shortly after their win.

In a statement by Reading, the club announced Paunovic's exit was by mutual consent as they thanked him for his service.

"Reading Football Club can confirm that the contract of first-team manager Veljko Paunović has been terminated by mutual consent," the statement said.

Paul Ince named new boss

The Madejski-based outfit went on to appoint Ince as Veljko's successor albeit on a temporary basis.

"Former England captain Paul Ince, the father to Royals loanee Tom Ince, has been appointed to take charge of first-team affairs on an interim basis alongside Academy Manager Michael Gilkes, while we embark on the thorough search for a new permanent manager," Reading announced.

Ince's appointment marked his first return to management since departing Blackpool in 2014.

The 54-year-old has managerial stints with Macclesfield Town, Milton Keynes Dons, Blackburn, and Notts County.
