  • Fernandes, who has been a revelation since moving to the Premier League in 2020, says Mata has helped him as a football player
  • Mata, has been devoid of minutes on the pitch and has only made two appearances for the Red Devils this season

Manchester United star Bruno Fernandes recently disclosed that Juan Mata is his best friend at the club.

Fernandes, who joined the Red Devils in January 2020, has had plenty of time to get accustomed to his teammates.

Ahead of the Premier League encounter against Leeds United on Sunday, February 20, the Portuguese international engaged in a quick-fire session with the Manchester United website.

Among the questions he was asked was his best friend at the club, and he did not hesitate to name Mata as one player who has helped him a lot since he came to Old Trafford.

Asked about his best friend, Bruno said:

“So that’s a hard one because I have a good relationship with everyone, honestly, but I think I would probably choose Juan [Mata] because I learn a lot from him in this two years. "
“He’s been someone who’s been really special and make me better every day, on and off the pitch. He made me grow up to be a better player and a better person also.”

Mata responded to Bruno Fernandes’ sentiments on Instagram by sharing the quote while jokingly asking his fellow countryman David De Gea not to get jealous.

Interestingly, Fernandes’ so-called best friend has struggled for game time in recent seasons, although he is considered an important squad-rotation player.

Mata signed a new contract in the summer but has started just two games so far this season.

One of those games was the EFL Cup exit against West Ham and the Champions League game against Young Boys.
