Luis Philippe Scolari has revealed he has a very special relationship with football icon and Manchester United striker Cristiano Ronaldo.

Scolari was coach of the 37-year-old striker between 2003 to 2008 when he managed the Portugal national team and led them to the final of the Euros in 2004.

In a report via The Sun, Scolari revealed he created a special bond with the former Real Madrid and Juventus star after revealing the death of his father when he was coach of Portugal.

"It was very hard. It was the moment that created a bond between us, a bond that surpasses the coach-athlete relationship.
"When the news got to us, before a game against Russia, nobody knew how to tell him and nobody wanted to.
"So I told them I would do it as I knew how it was to lose a parent. I had lost mine a few years before."

Meanwhile, Manchester United manager, Ralf Ragnick revealed the reason Cristiano Ronaldo was benched against Burnley on Tuesday, February 8.

According to Goal, Cristiano Ronaldo was dropped for the Red Devils clash with Burnley as manager Ralf Rangnick said the game will require a lot of sprinting.
