Brazil football chiefs have reportedly set their eyes on Pep Guardiola as the new head coach of the national team.

Tite stepped down from his role, following a shock World Cup quarter-final exit at the hands of Croatia on December 9.

Croatia had frustrated the Samba Boys, but Neymar finally broke the deadlock in extra time. With the favourites poised to seal their semi-final spot, Bruno Petkovic scored with three minutes left to force the game to penalties, where Brazil lost.

Fox Sports reported on Tite announcing he was resigning, although he was originally expected to leave irrespective of how things went in Qatar. The 61-year-old has been in charge for two World Cups, suffering similar fates.

Pep Guardiola as Brazil coach

Plans to succeed Tite have started in earnest, with reports claiming that Brazil won't mind a foreign coach. The Mirror reports that Guardiola has emerged as a strong favourite, but it would be a tall order to get the Manchester City boss.

He recently extended his contract in England by a further two years. The Abu Dhabi-backed club reiterated its commitment to the Spanish tactician, despite his inability to win the Champions League so far.

Guardiola considered for 2026 Mundial

It is believed that Brazil Football Federation boss Ednaldo Rodrigues will reach out to Guardiola to understand his plans. The former Barcelona and Bayern Munich coach has in the past expressed interest in managing a national team.

Brazil are in no hurry to get a successor though. Guardiola's contract expires in 2025, just one year before the next World Cup in the USA, Mexico and Canada.

Sports Brief had earlier reported that Brazilian football star Neymar revealed his feelings following his side's elimination from the World Cup.

The Selecao, who were among the favourites to win the 2022 edition, were sent packing from Qatar in the quarter-finals after a heartbreaking defeat to Croatia via a penalty shootout.

The two teams settled for a 1-1 draw during regulation time, with Neymar scoring at the death in what appeared to be the winner.
