  • Despite Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates conducting good business on the transfer market, Mamelodi Sundowns is expected to maintain its stranglehold on the DStv Premiership
  • This is the straightforward opinion of Muhsin Ertugral, who once coached the Amakhosi and the Buccaneers
  • Despite not being aggressive like usual in acquiring players, the Turk said Masandawana had more than enough to see off their challengers

They can huff and they can puff, but Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates won't be able to blow down the house Mamelodi Sundowns has built any time soon.

This is the blunt thought of Muhsin Ertugral, who once occupied the main chair in the dugouts of the Amakhosi and the Buccaneers. Chiefs and Pirates have signed well from the transfer market during the off-season, but Ertugral reckoned this wouldn't be enough to topple Sundowns just yet.

The Turk told IOL:

“One of the things we undermine in football is continuity. Sundowns have had continuity for five years after winning the league. It is like fine-tuning an orchestra. Everyone can play unplugged. But you won’t listen to that.

"You’ll listen to an orchestra in fine tuning. And this is years, and years, of being together. “So, again, I don’t think Sundowns will be challenged this season!”

Sundowns have been unusually quiet on the transfer market, usually cornering it in acquiring the cream of the crop. The Brazilians have thus far snapped up Bafana Bafana captain Ronwen Williams and Sipho Mbule, both from SuperSports United.

On the way to the club are also Chilean midfielder Marcelo Allende and Moroccan defender Abdelmounaim Boutouil.

Orlando Pirates legend Edward "Magents" Motale backs Richard Ofori for Orlando Pirates captaincy

If it was Edward "Magents" Motale's decision to make, Ghanaian international Richard Ofori would become the new Orlando Pirates captain.

As reported by Sports Brief, with Happy Jele having left the club, Jose Riveiro will look for someone to fill in his very large shoes ahead of the new season.

Thabang Monare, Thembinkosi Lorch, Olisa Ndah, Ben Motshwari and Ofori would make for suitable team captains.
