FootballGladAfrica Championship, the National First Division, to Be Renamed the Motsepe Foundation Championship
- The National First Division will now be known as the Motsepe Foundation Championship after an announcement earlier today
- The second tier of South African football had been known as the GladAfrica Championship since the 2019/20 season
- The South African Football Association Second Division, the third tier, had already been known as the ABC Motsepe League
Starting next season, the National First Division will be named the Motsepe Foundation Championship for sponsorship reasons.
The announcement was made by CAF president Patrice Motsepe, who is the founder of of the foundation.
As reported by the SABC, the division had been known as the GladAfrica Championship since the 2019/20 season.
As stated on the foundation's website, the division below - the South African Football Association Second Division, is known as the ABC Motsepe League. This is in honour of Motsepe's father Chief Augustine Butana Chaane Motsepe of the Bakgatla-Ba-Mmakau.

According to The Citizen, consultancy firm GladAfrica signed a five-year deal back in 2019, but decided to end the partnership two years earlier than expected.
Motsepe said:
“South African football has a long and proud history of producing some of the most talented footballers. It is an honour for the Motsepe Foundation to make a humble contribution to the development of footballers and to make South Africa be among the best in Africa and globally.”
This move strengthened the family's influence in South African and African football, with Motsepe's first foray into the industry back in 2003 when he bought Mamelodi Sundowns.

FootballAs reported Sports Brief, Mtimkulu was using a phone to film a couple of SAFA officials arguing in a heated confrontation outside one of the Sandton Convention Centre halls when the incident occurred.
The unnamed man attempted to grab the phone out of her hands, leading to words being exchanged.
