Mamelodi Sundowns were officially crowned as the 2021/22 DStv Premiership champions today.
Masandawana won the league title in April after a goalless draw with Cape Town City but had to wait till the last league game to get their hands on the trophy.
Sundowns’ last game came against Royal AM today and the Brazilians ended their season in style with a 3-2 win over MaMkhize’s side in a thrilling fixture.
Gaston Sirino, Thabiso Kutumela and Peter Shalulile all got onto the scoresheet as Sundowns held on for a win, Sports24 reported.
Following the victory, the team finally got to the moment they’d been waiting for, for almost a month. Sundowns players and the technical team got to lift the DStv Premiership title in front of their fans, their fifth league title in a row.

Sundowns co-coach Manqoba Mnqithi took time out before the celebrations to praise the players, management, and everyone associated with Mamelodi Sundowns. Club President Tlhopie Motsepe echoed those sentiments and also thanked the fan base, adding that the club was successful because of them.
Mamelodi Sundowns will be looking to lift another trophy on Saturday when they take on Marumo Gallants in the Nedbank Cup final.
Winning the Nedbank Cup will see Masandawana achieve a domestic treble.
Mamelodi Sundowns ended their season in style with a victory over Royal AM at the Chatsworth Stadium. Masandawana beat Shauwn Mkhize’s side thanks to beautiful goals from Gastón Sirino, Thabiso Kutumela and a Peter Shalulile finish.
