Cape Town City travelled to Loftus Versveld looking to play spoiler and put Mamelodi Sundowns’ title celebrations on hold.
Sundowns went into the encounter only needing a draw to secure the title. Neither team seemed to want the win though as the first half was largely uneventful. Both sides had enough possession of the ball but did very little with it.
At the end of the half Sundowns only had two shots on target while Cape Town City did not register a single shot on target.
The second half was also largely uneventful. Despite Cape Town City chasing second place in the DStv Premiership they never really looked like a side chasing a win. Sundowns on the other hand didn’t seem to mind the slow pace of the game.
The game eventually ended 0-0, confirming Sundowns as the league champions and sending the stadium into celebration mode.
