  • Mamelodi Sundowns have a 17-point lead over Orlando Pirates and fans think they have won the title already

  • Fans are in agreeance with the Kaizer Chiefs legend Neil Tovey who believes Mamelodi Sundowns have already won the title

Mamelodi Sundowns are leading the race for the DStv Premiership title and former Bafana and Kaizer Chiefs player, Neil Tovey, thinks that the Brazilians have already wrapped up the title.

Sundowns still have 10 games to play in the competition but hold a healthy leady over second-placed Orlando Pirates, leading the Buccaneers by 17 points.

Tovey also previously won the Premier Soccer League with Sundowns when he served as a co-coach during the 2005/2006 season.

He made his comments before Sundowns played Chippa United last night. Sundowns won the match 2-0 to extend their lead to 17 points, Sport24 reported

"Actually they've already clinched the league title a long time ago. It doesn't matter tonight whether they win or lose, they will still win the title. They should start concentrating on the Champions League now," Tovey was quoted by KickOff as saying.

Fans of the Brazilians have agreed with the Bafana legend, believing that Masandawana can take their foot off the pedal in the Premiership. Here’s what they had to say on social media:

@TheBigG_Goloza:

"He's right no team can catch Sundowns now"

Mhlengi Khathi:

"We're playing pre-season matches now others can sweat for the second spot we will now play our ladies team we have no competition"

Sibusiso Gumede:

"We are going to show them how to run away with a league, not this thing of sitting at the top to warm the top for others. This season we gonna start preparing the next season this season after 4 matches from now, while others will be fighting for number 2 and 8."

Tobias Mlauzi:

"No team will catch Sundowns this season. The 17 points gap is not a joke bafethu. Sundowns just need only 4 wins to clinch the DSTV Prem title again"

Isaac Morake Mafatle:

"A goal difference of 26 and nobody else has more than 7 at this stage. This league is too easy for Sundowns."

Hopeful Kaizer Chiefs fan believes the team can somehow catch Mamelodi Sundowns in DStv Premiership

Mamelodi Sundowns last night came to within five wins of clinching a fifth consecutive league title last night after a 2-0 win over Chippa United at Loftus Versfeld, Sports Brief reported after the match.

The victory took the Brazilians up to 47 points after 20 matches, 17 points ahead of second-placed Orlando Pirates on 30, who have played a match less than them. But it's Kaizer Chiefs fans that remain hopeful.

Chiefs fan @Ta_Fitty pointed out a plausible but unlikely scenario on Twitter that sees the Amakhosi winning all four games in hand on Sundowns, moving up to second and to within seven points off the log leaders.
