- Los Blancos came from two goals down to beat the Reds 5-2 in a classic Champions League night
- A former Liverpool player has now ripped into the defensive unit of the club singling out a player
Real Madrid proved why they had won the UEFA Champions League trophy by continuing where they stopped last season, producing one of the best comeback performances to dismantle Liverpool at Anfield.
The two sides met in the final last year. Madrid came out on top thanks to Vinicius Jr's 59th-minute strike, but the gap between the two sides months later does not exemplify they were last year's finalists.
The Reds raced to a two-goal lead within 14 minutes through Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah, but Vinicius Jr drew Madrid level before the end of the first half. Eder Militao and Karim Benzema's double destroyed Liverpool.

The former player got revenge after Liverpool's shambolic defensive display last night. Speaking to CBS Sports after the game, as quoted by Metro UK, he criticised the entire defence and singled out the Dutch defender.
‘‘So this Liverpool defence now, who we’ve been told for years have some of the best players in the world, can’t cope. For years they’ve had a front six in front of them who probably worked harder and smarter than any other team in world football. And now that’s gone, it’s completely fallen apart,’’ he said.

Football‘‘What makes me laugh – I’m not that bothered by it – but Virgil van Dijk said I wouldn’t get in that back four about two months ago. I think I’d take his place at the moment!’’ he added.
There are growing calls for Liverpool to improve their squad, particularly in the midfield, but the ex- England international feels the defence must also be worked on.
‘‘We keep talking about midfield players they need and that’s right, but I think Liverpool need defenders as well because when they get exposed they can’t defend.’’ he concluded.
Carragher laughs at his troll
The British pundit may have gotten the last laugh against the defender of his former club, but his criticism of another defender in the Premier League got clapped back.
He criticised Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez for being too short for the Premier League after the World Cup winner joined from Ajax last year.
As reported by Sports Brief, United fans trolled Carragher after they signed Dutch striker Wout Weghorst, who is one of the tallest players in the league, who they claimed in the ex-Liverpool man's voice is too tall.
