  • Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold has been warned by Rio Ferdinand that it will be difficult for him to start for England at the World Cup
  • Trent was at fault for Ajax's goal in their Champions League clash last night, which they won 2-1
  • Ferdinand says that Trent will be a victim of stylistic differences between Jurgen Klopp and England boss Gareth Southgate

Liverpool fullback Trent Alexander-Arnold has been warned that he might not start for the England squad at the World Cup because of the way he plays for the Reds.

Trent's performances have come under scrutiny this season, something which has coincided with Liverpool's stuttering start to the season.

Trent's incompatibility with England

Manchester United Legend Rio Ferdinand placed the blame on the right-back for the Ajax goal in the Champions League last night. Ferdinand said that with the competition for the position for the Three Lions, Trent risks missing out on the starting spot for Gareth Southgate.

Ferdinand was speaking on BT Sport last night and reiterated that given the two different styles, Jurgen Klopp and Southgate employ, the 23-year-old might struggle to start in Qatar. Reece James, Kieran Trippier and Kyle Walker are also vying for the position.

Is Jurgen Klopp saying to him 'you're in this team to create chances?' Is he treating him like he's a No 10 in this team from right-back? The game in the right-back position has changed so much.
I think it will be difficult for Trent to start for England, with the way Gareth has set his team up in recent months and time gone by.

For the last few seasons, the Liverpool Academy product has been a key cog for Klopp's machine, a side that swept aside Europe and the Premier League. To fans and pundits alike, Trent is either a force in attack or a defensive liability. So far this season, he has been a liability to the Reds.

Alexander-Arnold's struggles this season

Sports Brief earlier reported on Trent's difficult campaign with rival fans taking turns to troll him on social media.

After the first few games of the season, we have seen the best and the worst of the England youngster. He will need to step up to allow his team to regain their usual swagger.
